Why we like magnesium bisglycinate

Magnesium bisglycinate is a gentle form of magnesium that is easy for the body to absorb.

It is often used for deep sleep, blood sugar regulation and hormonal balance due to the inclusion of the amino acid glycine.

Each serving provides 180mg of magnesium.

I started taking this to help with relaxation, sleep quality and muscle cramps, and it really does help. I wouldn’t be without it now. Have got my family taking it as well and they are also feeling the benefits. Anonymous

Organic Wholefood Magnesium

Our organic wholefood magnesium is sourced from sea lettuce harvested mainly from the coast of Brittany, located on the French North West coast. It is collected during low tide, primarily on the seashore or in estuaries with calm waters. These harvesting areas are always situated in places with excellent water quality that complies with the organic regulations. Our harvesting methods are carried out manually, ensuring the preservation of the resource and the maintenance of sanitary quality consistent with organic farming specifications. The harvesting process involves the use of a knife to cut the seaweed and we always leave a portion of it hanging to ensure regrowth. After harvesting, we dry the sea lettuce in greenhouses using solar energy. We then mechanically grind the dried seaweed to obtain the raw material.

Product FAQs

Find common questions and answers to our magnesium bisglycinate with wholefood magnesium product here.

Should I purchase the glass jar or refill pouch?

If it's your first time purchasing this product we would suggest purchasing the jar and then utilising the refill pouches for top ups as these can be delivered through the letterbox. Please note that a maximum of two refill pouches can fit inside a large letter (Royal Mail).

What is the capsule size?

Our magnesium capsules are smaller than industry standard (which are typically size 00). This makes them easier to take for those who struggle with larger capsules.

How do I start taking magnesium and what should I expect?

As with any new supplement, always start with 1 capsule first and slowly build up from there or as professionally directed. Everyone responds slightly differently to different forms of magnesium (of which there are many). Some people find magnesium bisglycinate relaxing whereas others find it energising. This may dictate when you choose to take it.

Does the amount of magnesium refer to the gross weight of the product or the net magnesium?

Different forms of magnesium have different 'weights' of magnesium (elemental) to them. What this means is how much of the compound is actually magnesium. We always list the net magnesium. Don't be fooled by other manufacturers displaying much higher dosages of magnesium (like 1500mg), they are showing the gross weight of the product, not the net magnesium.

What happens if I take too much?

Magnesium is 'hydrophillic' meaning it attracts water. This means it can pull water into the bowel. High doses may cause more loose bowel movements. If this occurs, lower the dose until you reach bowel tolerance.

What is the maximum number of capsules I can take in one go?

This will depend on your individual needs, however we recommend taking a maximum of 2 capsules in one serving typically.

Magnesium bisglycinate doesn't help me sleep but gives me energy, is there something else I can try for sleep?

You may wish to try our magnesium taurate or transdermal forms of magnesium such a magnesium bath salts or creams.

Can I take magnesium bisglycinate on an empty stomach?

We recommend taking magnesium after food when starting out however, you can take magnesium away from food if you would like.
